Know more about Wi-Fi 6

What is Wi-Fi 6 ?

Wi-Fi 6 (Wifi 6) ,also known as “AX WiFi” or “802.11ax WiFi”,is the sixth generation of Wi-Fi that’s faster than 802.11ac. Wi-Fi 6 offers faster data transfer speeds, improves power efficiency and provides better performance in congested areas. Wi-Fi 6 devices meets the highest standards for security and interoperability, and reduces power consumption, making it a best choice for any environment, including the Internet of Things (IoT).

Wi-Fi Has Version Numbers Now

Wi-Fi 4 is 802.11n, released in 2009.
Wi-Fi 5 is 802.11ac, released in 2014.
Wi-Fi 6 is 802.11ax,the new version. It is making its big debut this year.

How fast is Wi-Fi 6 ?

Based on the overall refrain from industry experts,Wi-Fi 6 will offer data transfer speeds that are around 30%-40% faster than 802.11 ac, with theoretical maximum transfer speeds up around 10 Gbps. As with any Wi-Fi standard, the speed capability from your internet service provider (ISP) is like a speed limit for your local network .So as to take full advantage of Wi-Fi 6 speeds, you’ll need a faster plan from my ISP to match it. And at present, most plans don’t go nearly that high.

Pack More Data With 1024-QAM

1024-QAM increases throughput for emerging, bandwidth-intensive uses by encoding more data in the same amount of spectrum, Wi-Fi 6 utilizes 1024-QAM to transmit more data and more efficiency, This new standard also takes full advantage of 8×8 uplink/downlink, MU-MIMO, OFDMA, and BSS Color to provide up to 4x larger capacity and to handle more devices.

Longer Battery Life

A new “target wake time” (TWT) feature means the Wi-Fi devices should have longer battery life. It allows devices to negotiate when to put its Wi-Fi radio to sleep and exactly when to wake it up to receive the next transmission, improving network efficiency and device battery life, including IoT devices

More Bandwidth on a Wider Channel

Wi-Fi 6 expands the WiFi band from 80 MHz to 160 MHz, increasing the bandwidth and creating a faster connection to deliver greater performance with low latency.
