China issues 5G licenses to four local firms

China named the first companies to grante 5G licenses for commercial use on Thursday.

The MIIT approved three network operators — China Mobile, China Telecom ， China Unicom — and cable network company China Broadcasting Network to run the next-generation cellular connectivity.

These four local firms had been granted trial 5G licenses at the end of 2018 and Thursday’s announcement gives the go-ahead for full commercial deployment ahead of the original timeline that was targeting that for 2020.
